This personal illustration project explores the shared struggles and quiet resilience of women across diverse cultural backgrounds. Framing each portrait within a teardrop silhouette alongside an open frame, it gently invites viewers to step into the work, reflect on global sorrow, and “mourn with those who mourn.”

Artist Statement

Learning about different cultures broadens our perspective, and exploring the lives of women from diverse cultural backgrounds has always felt deeply meaningful to me.

Originally created as a submission for a collaborative group colouring book, this project began as a personal reflection on the cultural, ethnic, and religious nuances of women I encounter—both in everyday life and through the media. It is an invitation to look beyond surface differences, recognize what unites us, and remain mindful of the quiet struggles unfolding around the world—ultimately guided by the passage from the Bible to "mourn with those who mourn" (Romans 12:15).

Each woman faces left, held within the contour of a teardrop and shedding a single tear. Rendered in clean line art and left uncoloured, the piece asks viewers not merely to observe from a distance, but to step inside. By inviting you to draw or imagine your own profile within the empty teardrop, the work poses a quiet truth: you, too, could be one of them. It calls on the viewer to bridge personal boundaries, embrace shared vulnerability, and stand in heartfelt solidarity with their grief.
